Dakota Alert WMA-3000 Wireless Motion Alert Kit-600′ Max Range Review
The Dakota Alert WMA-3000 Wireless Motion Alert Kit-600′ Max Range is an instrument that can protect your home or business from unexpected visitors.
The WMA-3000 system sends an immediate alert when a person or car enters your property.
The transmitter from the system operates on only one 9 Volt battery and it is weatherproof so you can easily mount the transmitter to a tree or post near the driveway.
The transmitter has a working range of 80 feet and it uses passive infrared (PIR) beam to detect people or vehicles that enter the driveway and then send a radio signal back to its receiver which can be placed in your house up to 600 feet away from the transmitter.
The Dakota Alert WMA-3000 system consists of one transmitter and one WR-3000 Receiver. The operating temperature of the system is between -30 degrees F to 120 degrees F.
Below are the pros and cons of the Dakota Alert WMA-3000 Wireless Motion Alert Kit-600′ Max Range as described and experienced by its users.
Pros
- The system works flawlessly where it has been through a major rainstorm and several extremely foggy mornings. Temperatures here have been as high as 94 degrees.
- The system worked out of the box with both receivers.
- The default settings were fine and setting switches was not necessary.
- The user likes the ability to choose the alarm sounds from the system.
- The range is very good and the 600 feet max is accurate and reliable.
- Long battery life.
- The alert chime is pleasant and the volume can be controlled from very soft to quite loud.
- You can have 4 sensors on one reciever and could watch the entire outside of your home with just 4 of these devices.
- Great for when kids are playing outside because you’re alerted if they get to close to the road.
- Excellent price for the peace of mind it offers.
Cons
- Like most infra-red receivers, the system does occasionally pick up dogs, deer, and even a crow that flies close enough.
- Although called a “motion sensor,” the manufacturer says an object must be a minimum of six degrees warmer than the surroundings to be detected.
- As experienced by one of the users, the system has stopped working once during the “so-foggy-everything-is-soaked” mornings.
- The PIR sensor type transmitter is very sensitive to false alarms due to wind (swaying trees) and wildlife (the neighbors dog, cat and etc).
- The transmitter is not waterproof.
- FCC changed the rules about the transmitters and that Dakota Alert couldn’t get the range that they did a few years ago i.e 600 feet. The system now works at only up to 100 feet according to one of the users.
- Direct sun will give you a false alarm, so don’t point it in the sun.
- The transmitter intermittently fails on a daily basis. If it is below freezing outside it rarely works. If it is raining it will not work at all.
